The Big Field at Bishan
I decided to photograph a circus that was set up in a big field at Bishan during 2010's Chinese New Year. These temporary circuses were common sights in Singapore's neighbourhoods. I used to enjoy playing games in them when I was a child. As I was photographing this circus, I was struck by a melancholic wonder at how empty it was compared to the crowds of children that would gather in a circus in the past. It seems that the circus is unable to draw visitors despite offering eye catching structures and games. A couple of years later, two condominiums have been built on this field. The images were taken with a medium and large format film camera, and developed using traditional darkroom techniques.
